How Centre Highlights came to be

The founders having enjoyed a 24 year love affair with Central Australia, with its clear blue skies, deep red rocks and almost luminous green foliage, wanted to share their experiences with the world. They have spent many years exploring Outback Australia in a swag (Australian Bed Roll) and a 4WD, enjoying the experiences of meeting locals and fellow travellers alike, while enjoying the simple joys of life, like a nice glass of wine with friends as the sun goes down.

These simple but quite exquisite pleasures plus the urge for a little more comfort and convenience coupled with a moderate budget drove the criteria for the creation of Centre Highlights. Centre Highlights has enabled them to share their life style and passion for the outback with the world.

Centre Highlights’ founders have long enjoyed the friendship of many people throughout the vast outback, from cattle stations to Aboriginal communities and regional towns across the Northern Territory. In particular Wallace Rockhole is where we have enjoyed a long standing association with the whole community and formed a lasting friendship with community leaders.

These relationships were established based on mutual respect and our desire to support the people, their culture and their community. The primary aim was to bring about an opportunity for our guests to enjoy a meaningful experience with our friends while providing a commercially sustainable income for the community and its sales of locally produced artefacts.

The unquantified benefits include personal growth of the children as their interaction members. The income is derived through direct employment of locals for guided tours as well as with travellers from all over Australia and the world. It develops their desires and fires their drive to be “part of the success”.

Centre Highlight’s goal is for our guests to participate in real experiences amongst real people in the real outback. Not mass market touristy activities shown along the main road enroute to a famous icon.

This means, like life, nothing is guaranteed, but having the opportunity to experience real life situations give a much deeper and more meaningful understanding of the environment, the people and their life style. So while we express the activity as “avoiding the crowds” it really has a much more real and meaningful message to convey.
